2 Drinks for Fun Became 30 Drinks to Function — My Alcoholic Journey

When my friends and family told me that alcoholism was a problem, and that it was time for me to get help, it was hard to believe.

After all, how could something be wrong with me if nothing bad was happening?

It wasn’t until my fifth or sixth drink that things changed.

Suddenly, everything started to feel harder.

My tolerance went up so much that by the time four or more drinks would put me in the mood for doing things, forget it — two would do the trick.

And then came the blackouts: suddenly forgetting what had happened when coming back to consciousness.

Drinking became a way of coping with everything; it made life easier by giving me an escape from the problems everyone was telling me were there.

The truth is, alcohol was never meant to be used as a crutch.

In fact, it was actually created to help us relax and have a good time.

But for me, it ended up being something much more sinister.

For years, alcohol was the only thing that could calm my anxiety and depression.

It helped me to sleep at night and feel exhausted during the day.

But the cost of this addiction was very high — it caused all sorts of physical pain, including PTSD and chronic insomnia, and eventually death & liver failure.

The truth I eventually had to accept was…

I was responsible for my suffering.

Today, no one can tell me that it’s impossible to get clean and sober.

I’ve been there, done that, and learned the hard way that it doesn’t matter whose fault it is because you’re responsible for your own health.

So, if you feel like getting sober is impossible, you’re not alone.

Every single person who has ever overcome addiction has felt this way at some point in their journey.

By joining Beyond Sober, I can help you turn your struggle into a success story.

You don’t have to be in pain to want to feel better and I can help you find the courage to change your life for the better.
