Addiction Isn’t A Choice
“Just don’t use drugs or alcohol. It’s not that hard!” — She exclaimed.
Deep breath…
Addiction is not a choice!
Survival is.
Addiction is a destination that is an accumulation of decisions based on your environment.
The first and most important environment to evaluate is the one you cant escape no matter how hard you try…
…your mind.
Most nurses, doctors, and therapists have never been an addict so they don’t truly understand mental health in the addiction arena.
I’m an ex alcoholic and a liver failure survivor.
I died from cardiac arrest in 2017 while surviving liver failure: as a result of an addiction to alcohol.
Now why would I choose alcohol?
Was I choosing the addiction?
At what point did this substance become my medicine?
The substance was no longer a decision, but a necessary measure to live.
Addiction is not a choice.
Survival is.
You’re either going to die trying to live…
…or die dying.
Anyone that appears to be choosing an addiction is simply using the most powerful weapon in their arsenal.
