You were just diagnosed with ADHD and now you’re wondering if ADHD has anything to do with alcoholism.

Absolutely.

If you find it impossible to have just one drink, you’re probably chasing the dopamine.

Dopamine releases in anticipation.

This is why just the thought of drinking alcohol is enough to get you to go to that bar.

It’s also going to help you over process and overthink every situation.

So if you over process a terrible situation, you’re going to give yourself a billion reasons to want to drink alcohol.

Alcohol helps you ignore the millions of thoughts you’re having…

That thought releases dopamine.

But, what if you’re celebrating and having a good day?

You’ve come up with a billion more reasons to celebrate with alcohol.

ADHD doesn’t make us an alcoholic, but it does influence our alcoholic behavior.

Do that long enough and you activate your alcoholic gene.

If your ADHD has you over processing and finding a billion reasons to drink, it could also over process and give you a billion more reasons why you don’t need to drink.
