In life, there comes a point where it feels like we’ve hit rock bottom. This is a phrase not unfamiliar to many of us. “You’re at your rock bottom right now, dude,” may sound disheartening, but it’s important to remember that this doesn’t signify an end.

On the contrary, it’s the beginning of a new chapter in your life journey. It is a common misconception that things have to get worse before they get better but in actuality, you could just start getting better.

To rise from the depths of despair, the first step is to stop digging. For many people, continuous digging is a comfort zone. But as we’ve learned from Beyond Sober, it’s crucial to embrace a change of perspective.

It’s not easy to break free from the routines we’ve grown accustomed to, but every great journey starts with a single step. It could be as simple as acknowledging the need for change and setting the intention to do so.

Having a purpose or a job can make us feel valued and accomplished. It’s what gets us up in the morning and gives us the motivation to power through the day. “This is my job. This is my purpose. This is my destiny.” Beautiful sentiments, but what if the job or purpose you’re referring to is self-destructive?

What if the very thing you’re good at is keeping you stuck in a harmful cycle? It’s time to reconsider what we’ve been practicing and find a healthy alternative.

It’s essential to remember that by continuing on a destructive path, we’re not just harming ourselves but also moving further away from our loved ones and our future.

The notion of ‘digging’ may give a sense of progress but in reality, it’s moving us away from where we need to be. As the Sober Not Sober community advocates, it’s important to take steps towards recovery and rebuilding, moving closer to your future, not further away.

In conclusion, being at your rock bottom doesn’t have to mean a downward spiral. It can signify a turning point, a moment of awakening. This is the perfect time to stop digging, to reassess what we’ve been practicing, and to make a conscious effort to move towards a better future.

It’s never too late to start getting better. As dark as the night may be, dawn is always on the horizon. Rise high from your rock bottom and soar towards the light of a new day.
