In the pursuit of pleasure and escape, we often overlook the real cost of our habits.

One such habit, which needs immediate attention, is the consumption of alcohol. I’m not here to tell you to quit drinking alcohol, but I do want to shed light on how it can impact your health. If you’re consuming alcohol regularly, it’s important to understand that you’re inviting potential harm to your system, regardless of whether you feel its effects immediately.

Alcohol is no less than a poison, a toxin, a disinfectant, and a carcinogen. It’s startling to note that this beverage we often enjoy socially can cause seven types of cancer. In a year, 3.3 million people around the world are projected to die from complications related to alcohol consumption, such as liver failure.

Beyond Sober offers resources to understand how alcohol consumption affects your health.

Long term consumption of this toxin can lead to a disease known as cirrhosis, the scarring and hardening of your liver. Stage four cirrhosis is terminal and requires a liver transplant for survival.

Cirrhosis isn’t an overnight occurrence but the result of consistent damage over time. The danger of cirrhosis lies in the fact that your liver, one of the most vital organs in your body, is compromised.

Imagine your muscle being permanently swollen and how that would limit your movement and functionality. The same applies to your liver when it is scarred and hardened.

A damaged liver can’t breathe, fluctuate, or operate at its best. This means that the most crucial organ, responsible for filtering toxins from your body, is not able to perform its job.

It’s vital to be conscious of the long-term effects that habitual drinking can have on your health and life. Start taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle. If you need guidance, Sober Not Sober provides a road map to help navigate the road to recovery. The choice is yours — choose a life that prioritizes your health and well-being.
