Having a family history of drinking problems does not predetermine an individual to become an alcoholic.

However, it is crucial to understand that certain behaviors could lead towards this path. Just because you enjoy drinking, even to the point of blacking out, it does not label you an alcoholic. But it’s important to note that these habits can push you towards developing alcoholism. Hence, it is crucial to refrain from practicing alcoholic behavior.

Drawing parallels with becoming an Olympian, it’s worth emphasizing that to become an alcoholic, one would have to train in the same way an Olympian does. If you’re engaging in activities that align with those of a seasoned alcoholic — you’re essentially setting yourself up to become one. Think of it like training for the ‘Alcoholic Olympics.’

You’re picking up all the behaviors that could steer you towards becoming an ‘Alcoholic Olympian.’

Healthy drinking habits could be a game-changer. I encourage you to consume more water and ensure you have adequate food in your system whenever you’re drinking. The focus isn’t merely on whether or not you drink, but rather, it’s about how you drink.

Balancing your drinking habits, like drinking more water in between drinks and not drinking too fast, can help you maintain control over your alcohol consumption.

Binging doesn’t just mean waiting for the weekend and overloading your liver. It also refers to having two or more drinks per hour — whether it’s beers or glasses of wine. This is too much alcohol too quickly. When such patterns are followed, your tolerance to alcohol increases, diminishing your ability to process alcohol efficiently.

At this stage, you’re just a drink away from developing a full-blown addiction.

I’m an ex-alcoholic liver failure survivor, and I’m sharing my insights to help others who might be struggling with drinking habits or those who have questions about alcoholism.
